Jonas Berg

Jonas Berg has five years of experience managing the development and operation of Menon Economics IT systems, and over the past year, he has contributed directly to code-intensive and data-driven projects as a Junior Data Scientist. As Menon’s "one-man IT department" during a period of rapid company growth, Jonas was responsible for developing and maintaining Menon’s IT architecture, including internal physical servers, additional services, and end-user support. He has played a key role in building and maintaining databases and cloud services and has expertise in web applications, hardware, user administration, Azure, SharePoint, networking, Docker, Git and GitLab, Linux/OS, Bash scripting, protocols, and IT security. One of his key contributions was the PostgreSQL server solution he built for hosting big data on ship positions (AIS data), which significantly reduced computation times for a range of analyses conducted for the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Jonas also has strong Python expertise and has worked on a variety of projects where coding skills were essential, including modern automated data collection, web scraping, data quality assurance and cleaning, analysis, and results visualization. He has worked extensively with geospatial data, including modeling differences between synthetic and physical power grids in Norway for the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) and contributing to a redundancy model for the Norwegian national road network using data from the Norwegian Road Database for Nye Veier. Before joining Menon, Jonas worked as a carpenter apprentice and later as a BIM technician in an architecture firm, giving him experience in creating, collaborating on, and processing BIM models (3D models/digital twins of buildings with embedded metadata, production drawings, quantity extraction, visualizations, and GIS data). He has modeled several large construction projects, including residential buildings, cabins, a detailed model of the Veksthuset at Tøyen, and a police station. He also has expertise in Facility Management (FDV) models for building operations, maintenance, and management. Jonas is thorough, reliable, and curious, always focused on finding effective and innovative solutions to the challenges he works on.
