Health Economic Analysis of Lifeness - Norway's First Approved Health App

About the project
Menon Economics conducted a health economic analysis of the lifestyle app Lifeness. Lifeness is a digital tool specifically designed for individuals looking to make lifestyle changes related to heart, lung, and vascular diseases, diabetes, overweight, obesity, musculoskeletal disorders, and more. For users, Lifeness functions as a self-help app that motivates them to work on their own process, with a focus on both mental and physical health. By logging a few parameters, setting goals, and regularly evaluating progress, users take responsibility for their own development. Healthcare professionals can enhance the effectiveness of the self-help tool by accessing data that the user has logged.
Lifeness was the first health app in Norway to be approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health. However, as with other methods used in healthcare, it is also necessary to document the solution’s effectiveness in order to provide potential users with a solid basis for decision-making when considering whether to adopt the solution.
What We Delivered
Menon had previously conducted several analyses of digital therapies and had also carried out extensive analyses of health challenges related to the main chronic diseases that Lifeness aims to address, such as eating disorders, musculoskeletal diseases, and overweight and obesity. Building on the insights from these earlier studies, we provided a simplified health economic analysis of the solution. This included a systematic review of research literature, which is a mandatory part of a health technology assessment (HTA). Furthermore, we conducted a survey of Lifeness users to assess various effects of the solution on health-related quality of life, which is an important outcome in health economic analyses.
The Result
The final report was prepared in English, serving as an important foundation for Lifeness’ export of the solution to markets outside of Norway. The company, headquartered in Skibotn, Troms, also succeeded in raising NOK 30 million in capital for the further development of the solution. Lifeness is now making significant progress in the German market, as well as in several other European countries.
